Grand Street Business Improvement District Hosts Design Competition

The Grand Street Business Improvement District in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn is holding a design competition in an effort to rebrand themselves. It is open to everyone in NYC, but it’s a great opportunity for Parsons students!

The Grand Street Business Improvement District (BID) is a nonprofit economic and community development organization serving Grand Street and its businesses from Union to Bushwick Avenues in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The mission of the Grand Street Business Improvement District (BID) is to create a vibrant commercial district and improve the quality of life for the community. Its principal activities include supplemental sidewalk cleaning, graffiti removal, the promotion and marketing of the diverse local businesses and community activities in order to provide a clean, safe and inviting district, making it a great place to live, work and shop. The Grand Street BID is one of the first business improvement districts that was created in the early 1980s.

The Grand Street BID is holding a logo design competition to solicit the best work that reflects the mission and spirit of the organization. The contest is open to public, and special priority will be given to designs from artists on Grand Street and the North Brooklyn community who are better familiar with the community. All members and non-members of the Grand Street BID are also invited to submit logo designs.

General Guidelines
· The organization’s name ‘Grand Street Business Improvement District’ must be included in the design.
· All designs must be original work. If an entry produces trademark problems due to potential similarities to existing designs, it will not be
considered.
· Designers are encouraged to add a brief explanation of their entry.
· By submitting a logo design, the designer agrees that the copyright on the design, if chosen, is transferred to the Grand Street Business Improvement District.

Submission, selection and award
· Email your finished design to ahavan@grandstbklyn.com by May 29th, 2012. Each designer is limited to one entry.
· The committee will review all entries and make recommendations tothe Board for the final selection of the winner.
· The winner will receive a cash prize of $1000 and will be recognized at the 2012 general member meeting.
· The winner will not be entitled to any additional remuneration other than the cash award.
· The Grand Street BID reserves the right to make necessary revision of the winning design. The BID also retains the right of not awarding a
winning design if none of the entries were deemed satisfactory.
