Communications and External Affairs seeks Digital Media Assistant

Opportunity1The New School’s Communications and External Affairs office (CEA) seeks a student to assist the Special Projects department for the coming year. The student assistant will work under the supervision of the Senior Director of Creative Services, the Special Projects Manager and alongside the Digital Media Coordinator in the organization, editing, and distribution of Photography and Video assets for the university. This includes preparing photography and video for various online multimedia platforms including YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, and Soundcloud among others.

This is a great opportunity for a well-organized and creative student to work in a professional environment on both individual projects and ongoing work that connects to every aspect of CEA’s activities, from publications to graphic design to online media.  CEA places a high value on the talents, knowledge and ideas of our student assistants in a very tangible and meaningful way. The Digital Media Assistant will have the opportunity to work on creative projects in photo and video while acquiring in-demand real-world skills of digital asset management and production.

Requirements:

  • Multi-Tasker

  • Organized, precise, and detail oriented.

  • Communicative, cooperative, curious to learn new things and able to take direction.

  • A fast learner of software programs.

  • Solid Photographic production and post-production skills, being a strong photographer is a plus

  • Proficient working on Macintosh computers.

  • Solid experience with Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Bridge within a professional environment (Creative Suite and Time-based editing software a plus, e.g. Final Cut Pro, Avid, After Effects, and/or Premiere)

  • Ability to balance school and work assignments.

  • Commit to a typical workload of 20 hours per week.

Responsibilities:

  • Catalogue, tag, export, and share photo shoots using our central server-based image database.  Training will be provided.

  • Assist in the maintenance of the university Youtube channel including uploading, creating playlists, and working with Public Relations team to edit and craft descriptions.

  • Assist all CEA staff by assembling and editing collections of images for different projects.

  • Assist the Special Projects Manager and the Digital Media Coordinator with compression and output of videos for different purposes.

  • Work with Special Projects Manager and Digital Media Coordinator, and outside vendors to produce in-house video and photo content.

The Digital Media Student Assistant and the Special Projects Manager will work out a schedule that is conducive to both, but one that could be flexible for fewer or more hours depending on academic calendar and need.  He/she should anticipate working up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to 35 in summer.  He/she needs to maintain a reasonable but dedicated schedule.
