Celine Latulipe (Asst. Prof, of Human-Computer Interaction @ UNC-Charlotte) will be in New York next week for the upcoming UIST conference and will be leading a small workshop this Sunday (October 3rd) from 10a-12p (and possibly into the afternoon) at Theresa Lang Student Center (55 W 13th St, 2nd Floor).

A limited number of participants can come, click the following link for more details: http://www.doodle.com/i5qfeyt2uc3p23x6

Celine will be introducing a new project that she’s just released called “LayerCake.” Please try the site out, and bring ideas and images that you’d like to use. No experience or technical expertise is required. There may be some computers available, but participants are encouraged to bring their own computer.

The idea is pretty simple:
Slice an image into transparent PNG layers.
Upload them to a server and assign each to a layer.
Assign each layer to a different interface device and gesture (i.e. panning on a gyroscopic mouse).
The layers then increase and decrease opacity according to movement of the assigned device.

Using projectors and an interface device like a cordless mouse, a keyboard, or even an ipad, you can create wearable interaction very easily and base your work on movement. This idea will be the focus of the workshop.
