1. Apply to Paint School Now through Nov 22!

Shandaken is proud to announce the third season of Paint School, applications for which will be open now through November 22, 2019. This year’s theme of Character will be discussed by world-renowned faculty including: Ellen Berkenblit, Leidy Churchman, Chitra Ganesh, Mark Thomas Gibson, Rob Pruitt, Tschabalala Self, and Kyle Staver. The 2020 session will take place January 7 through June 16, and will be, as always, completely free for participants.

Paint School is a master class in the theory and practice of painting that takes place in New York City. This discourse-based program brings twelve fellows together with faculty members who are widely recognized as among the most exceptional painters working today.

This year’s theme of Character will invite the 2020 cohort to examine morality, intention, and perspective as touchstones of the discipline. Not limited strictly to figuration, Character offers a vantage on narrative unshackled from technique. Through a selection of readings and discussions, Paint School will explore Character’s complex operations as well as imagine its continued potential to structure the approach of artists to life and the field of painting generally.

If the modest application cost for this program is a burden, Shandaken invites applicants to be in touch requesting a fee waiver.
