LG New Media Competition 2014

The Art of The Pixel challenges students at a selection of the nation’s top art schools to create still and motion digital artwork for display on LG’s Ultra HD and OLED TVs. Each individual pixel is important when it comes to color and clarity of the images on the screen. Digital art by nature requires a display technology, and LG is pleased to provide the canvas for today’s digital artwork with our Ultra HD and OLED TVs. LG is about inspiring and empowering people through technology. With The Art of the Pixel, we are both inspiring young artists and empowering their creativity.

One winning artist from each of nine participating schools will receive a $5,000 cash prize and be featured in an LG-organized Black Tie Event in NYC. The First Place winner will be awarded an additional$5,000, the Second Place winner will receive an additional$3,000 and the First and Second Place winners’ schools will receive a $50,000 and $25,000 grant, respectively.

In addition, Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor, producer, director and modern art enthusiast Neil Patrick Harris is teaming up with LG to act as artistic advisor and ambassador for The Art of the Pixel program, lending advice, encouragement and inspiration in various ways to both the students and LG over the summer. He is a contemporary art collector and supporter, as well as a regular fixture at major art events such as Art Basel, Art Platform and Armory Fair.

“I have an enormous respect for young artists who are out there taking chances and pushing boundaries with their work,” said Harris. “As an avid collector, I’m excited to see how advances in display technology open the door to a whole new art form and a whole new generation of digital artists.”
