AIGA NY Fresh Grad/ Edu Talks 2017

AIGA’s signature event, Fresh Grad: Showcase, is just around the corner! The event will be hosted at The New School on Thursday, June 8th and Friday, June 9th, 2017. It is a two-night event featuring various graduate students from local and regional MFA, MA and certificate programs. This Fresh Grad: Showcase will be accompanied by two other events- Fresh Jobs, a platform to meet reps from New York’s creative organizations and Fresh Ed, a small panel discussion focused on the state and future of design education.

The Fresh Grad: Showcase is free for Parsons students.

Fresh Jobs: Mini-Job Fair

Thursday, June 8 / 9:30-11:00AM

Join AIGA/NY’s first mini-job fair which is specifically for design students and newly minted graduates! Network and introduce yourself over coffee and breakfast sandwiches. This is a platform to meet representatives from New York’s top creative organizations, companies, agencies and studios and learn about the advantages of working at their company.

Fresh Grad Students #01

Thursday, June 8 / 6:30-8:30PM

On June 8th, students from some of the most respected schools in the country will gather at the Parsons auditorium. Each student will have five minutes to dazzle the audience and each other with wonders from their graduate projects.

Fresh Ed: Panel

Friday, June 9 / 9:30-11:00AM

The Fresh Ed Panel will discuss whether one still needs a degree in graphic design to become a professional designer. The panelists will consider whether degree programs adequately prepare students for an ever changing industry which includes user interface design, creating content for social media, VR and other emerging platforms. The panel will examine what design programs should teach and what role non-degree granting institutions play in the continuing education of 21st century designers.

The panel includes –
